waterpump flow?

Swapped my 85 2.8 motor that spun a bearing with one from an 87 firebird. I believe i used the timing cover from the 87. Just recently found out that they changed the direction of the flow when they swapped the v-belt design to a single serpetine belt. So i beleive my coolant hasn't been flowing properly. I carried the 3 v belts over to the 87 motor. So i did a little research and found napa and autozone have different timing covers that show different patterns. I'm more confused than ever. can someone tell me what water pump and timing cover i need that will be compatable with the 3 v belts.
