Steering wheel noise

I know this is a problem with the new GM truck vehicles (2001-?) but what can be done to get rid of the noise and bump from the steering wheel. I heard that GM has about 35 fixes out that doesn't cure it, can any of you tell me what you have done to get rid of this problem. My truck is a 2005 Duramax equipped Dually 3500 crew cab 4X4. thanks

Re: Steering wheel noise

Take out the intermediate shaft loose from your steering column ( one bolt under dash) and run the shaft in and out and put it back on, will fix it for another few thousand miles. I used to work at the dealer, we replaced em, then we cycled em, then we took em out and filled em up with grease....yada, yada, they all worked, for a bit, then they would do it again. GM won't fix it, apparently splined shafts in this location suck for noise, cause they have had a couple different shaft makers, and they all do it. Once the slip shaft get dry of lube they rattle and you feel it in the steering wheel. Wont hurt it, but it is annoying to say the least, no fix, just grease it up and forget about it till it does it again....

Re: Steering wheel noise

thanks for the info and congrats on being almost a JD certified tech. I was 20 years ago an ASE certified tech but went to a better paying job with more time off.
