Engine problems

have a 83 sierra with a 305 engine and aftermarket edelbrock carb had it for about 3 months have had start up trouble from the beginning. first of all engine won't idle properly, engine would not stay on until several start ups then runs fine . but lately has become worse engine shakes a good amount have check for any air leaks or other leaks..but nothing so far... any help or suggestions? carb maybe? any help appreciated thanks a bunch

Don't know if you fixed the problem yet. I had a '79 GMC, 305ci. I had similar trouble. 2 things were wrong with mine. I don't know if your aftermarket carb has an electric choke. I had to switch mine to a manual choke. I also discovered that some of the vacuum hoses had tiny cracks that were barely visable. I replaced ALL the hoses. After that the problem was solved. Really hope this is helpful.
