Mitsubishi Eclipse 10 point bolt
When doing a clutch job 10 point bolts were encountered. When a 12 point socket wouldn't fit an air hammer and a sharp chisel was used to bump them so they could be removed. They appear to be 13mm size. I counted the points and only 10 were observed. New bolts were obtained at a hardware store.
Does anyone know of a supplier for a 10 point socket that fits these bolts? |

Re: Mitsubishi Eclipse 10 point bolt
Why wouldnt you just replace them with a standard 6 or 12 point bolt?

http://www.tooltopia.com/ Search AST7409 Sears and Napa sell some. A 14mm tool like this can be installed on the bolt. |

http://www.vimtools.com/ Click on picture to get to the site. I checked today and it wasn't listed. Its made in the USA. AST,SPC69330,and JTC sell a 14mm 1/2 drive 10 point. According to Koken its a 14mm, JTC 20mm,SPC 5/8 I measured mine with a scale and their all the same size. Vim was manufactured to fit a bolt I mailed them. The others I mentioned fit a Honda. Not all Mitsubishi use a 10 point some may have either a six or 12 point. Count the points before buying a socket. Contact Vim if you need one in a hurry. http://www.vimtools.com/store/page19.html end of page Last edited by rhandwor; 05-20-2010 at 04:29 PM. |

Re: Mitsubishi Eclipse 10 point bolt
Remember some clutches are modular.
http://www.partsgeek.com/mmparts/clu...i/eclipse.html Scroll down to Sachs Modular clutch. Look closely at picture after you click on it.This type is more likely to use 10 point bolts. Use access panel unbolt six 10 point bolts and then pull transmission. Opening in bell housing the flywheel bolts up on the back of the flywheel not the front like a normal clutch. http://www.vimtools.com/store/page19.html Scroll to last item on page. |

Thanks. I have the car up on jack stands and most of the bolts sprayed with PB blaster - especially the exhaust, which looks like the first thing that needs to come out. |

Re: Mitsubishi Eclipse 10 point bolt
after a search locally, I bought the 10-point socket from Vimtools. they shipped itpretty quick. thanks for the link.
I have the car all back together. Now, the cluch won't disengage. The pedal does not feel like the hydraulics need to be bled, but I may do it anyway. The lever at the bell housing looks like it already in the disengaged position, I may be bottoming out before I get disengaged. I know I installed the clutch and throw-out bearing according to instructions, but this makes me question that. like I should have put the dampersprings toward the engine, not trans ??? like the directions said to. |

Re: Mitsubishi Eclipse 10 point bolt
Well after letting it sit for two days while I started a head gasket on a Neon, I decided to look into the access holes. I could see the clutch but not the throw out bearing and lever. I pulled back on the lever and all of a sudden it was in the right position, I put the slave cylinder in place, bled it and now everything seems fine. I have no I idea what was wrong. anyone want to buy a good used 12mm 10 point socket, only used once!
