Question drive on high with shift in gear 3, will it damage engine?

by mistake, I have been driven my new 2010 corolla (autotransmission) for over 800 miles (mostly on highway) with shift in gear 3 instead of in "D" , did it will damage the engine or just burn more engine oil? Thanks !

It will rev higher than it would if in the proper gear and will really drop the fuel mileage.

If the engine never overheated there shouldn't be a problem.

Did you press the lock out button on the side of the shifter?

I've done that a couple of times but I heard the engine over revving and checked the tach and found it way high. Pressed the button again and voila! back to normal.

A light comes on the dash when the OD is locked out but it's taking me awhile to get used to this Matrix I bought.

Thanks for your explanation. it make me less worry I didn't even know there is overdrive lockout button in 2010 corolla, I will check the manual tomorrow.
