1995 Bonneville start problems

Hey all,
I was wondering if anyone has any knowledge on this issue. Several months ago my friends car would randomly not start at times, sometimes not at all that day or in the morning to go to school and to go to work after school not start. It didn't seem to happen that much but recently it seems to be happening at least a few times a week.

He tries to start it and "check gauges" light comes on and the starter makes a sputtering noise, or its been on for a while in not 100% sure. All I can say is its random but usually seems to be a pattern of the car starts twice in a day then wont start the 3rd time around as I said above. This isn't always consistent but somewhat of a trend.

Anyone have any knowledge on the matter? Thanks

Vague description but try checking the battery cables and grounds for corrosion or looseness.

Hey thanks for the reply, ya sorry for the vague description but thats all I know. Checked battery cables look to be in good shape. Engine looked to be clean and in good shape as well from a glance so I really have no idea what the problem is.

The cables should be removed and cleaned, if ok and the battery is good, could be the starter.

Re: 1995 Bonneville start problems

actually when I was leaving napa this afternoon there was a guy with a 95 grand prix that said his car was doing the same thing. he said a pin in his starter solinoid was bad so it wouldn't always start so he had to keep turning the key over and over sometimes with someone tapping the starter to get it to start.
