door switch problem

I just bought a 2002 ls v8. none of the drivers door buttons work when the car is running. the drivers seat also does not work when it is running. Shut the car off, everything works as it should. any ideas where to start?

Re: door switch problem

pulled a code from the car. B1676 stands for battery pack voltage out of range. is there a battery back up for the seat and door?

Re: door switch problem

Try to disconnect & reconnect battery for a few min.

Maybe theres a control module that needs tobe refreshed or a electrical
connector that needs tobe cleaned and reseated.

Re: door switch problem

The B1676 only applies to the driver's door. Below are the troubleshooting steps for the B1676 code from the factory service manual:

  • Turn the ignition key to "Off."
  • Deactivate the supplemental restraint system (SRS). Refer to Section 501-20B .
  • Measure the voltage between DSM C341b pin 4, circuit 30-AH80 (RD), harness side and ground.
  • Is the voltage between 11.5 and 16 volts?
-->Yes CLEAR the DTC. REPEAT the DSM self-test. If DTC B1676 is retrieved, INSTALL a new DSM. REFER to Section 419-10 . REACTIVATE the supplemental restraint system (SRS). PROVE OUT the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to Section 501-20B .

-->No REFER to Section 414-00 for battery and charging system repair.

It seems likely that, like you suspect, when the door is closed, power is being lost to the DSM and DDM.

Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a tie between the DSM and the DDM. The DSM gets main power from fuse F4.21 (20-amp) from the Battery Junction Box. This comes in to the DSM (under driver's seat) as a red wire. Main power for the Driver Door Module (DDM) is from fuse F4.20 (20-amp) in the driver's door. This power comes in to the door on a Red wire from the Auxilliary Junction Box. You might try opening the door in small increments and seeing if there is a particular spot where things start or stop working. That may tell you if the problem is likely a bad wire or something else in the event the door needs to be completely closed and latched for the items to stop working.

Re: door switch problem

Sorry, I wrote the code only applies to the "driver's door." I should have typed "driver's seat."

Re: door switch problem

I happen to have the factory service manual CD for my wife's 2002. I've used Alldata in the past and currently have a couple of subscriptions for my parent's vehicles. The Alldata information is the same as the factory service manuals. It has a search function which the factory service manuals don't, and it is less expensive over the average time people keep cars. I have been quite pleased with Alldata.
