Re: looking to import a silvia s13

S13's and all Silvia's come stock with the SR20DET.

to make it legal, that varies from state to state, if it is on the importation list then no problem, any legalized importer can legalize it for the states.

Re: looking to import a silvia s13

if your importing i can tell you that not all s13's came with SR20's (de or det or otherwise) i have been looking into getting another silvia from japan 91 model and all i can say is make sure it has at least a SR20DE in it, even if its a auto, far better engine than the CA18DE which is almost archaic in comparisson. (and i know your saying to yourself pfft the 91's all had at least a SR20, well yes they technically all should but i tell you look carefully cause ive found more than a handful of 1991 s13s with CA18DE engines in them)

this website is helpful

http://www.cars-directory.net/history/nissan/silvia/

but really. NO CA18's!!!!

Re: looking to import a silvia s13

Everybody knows that the CA18's are famous for tons of top end problems, the valves always stick, the valve seats always sink, the cams always break, an the list goes on. Another bad part about the engine is that they go through crank bearings and oil rings every 15k miles or so. They are garbage.

Re: looking to import a silvia s13

If its legal to import, it must Meet DOT and EPA standards or be made to meet them for the year of the car...DO not think the SR20 RWD is legal for import in a car but a call to EPA will get you the answer

Not true. It is a VERY reliable/dependable engine! I prefer the SR20DET but both are good engines.

Re: looking to import a silvia s13

I have owned three 240's. One I did a CA18det just to see if it would be better than the other two I had previously build. But I personally did not like it no way as much as my other ones that had SR20DETs in them, there are just not as many powerful built on mods for the CA engine. So if you want the best bang for your buck get the SR because the mods are never going to stop being producted.
