Muffler strap problem (99sl)

The old muffler strap broke so I ordered a new one (part #36376) it looks similar to the old one but does not seem to fit. The new strap does not seem to allow the additional room for the flanges where muffler is put together. What am I doing wrong?

Where did you order it from? There are two strap designs. They changed in '97 iirc.

Also it is a very tight fit and sometimes requires two people. One to squeeze the strap tight with plyers and another to try to put the bolt in.

If you ordered it from Saturn then I'm not sure,
but if you ordered it from a regular parts supply.. I can guarantee that it is designed for the aftermarket which isn't as bulky as the OEM...
I had the same problem.
