check engine light and fuel guage issues.

My dad has an '07 Trailblazer with the 4.2L I6 engine....and well recently he went to fill up, and decided to top it off....a lot...and now the check engine light is on, and the fuel gauge reads empty and the warning light for that is on as well...Im fairly sure he filled his charcoal canister with gas. But i'm just wondering if anyone else out there had the same problem, and knows of a fix for it that doesnt involve loads of cash or trips to the shop.

Thanks!

Re: check engine light and fuel guage issues.

you may need a new fuel level sensor.we replace a number of them.your cannister should be ok,but they get replaced on occasion as well.as for the warning light, that could be the level sensor as well.
