Galant Vr4 Rally Car

Well I have started the build of my 5 rally cars with this one, the VR4 so far I have painted & decaled it next will be a coating or two of future floor shine to protect them all.

The Redarc sign is a sticker that has been trimed down to fit to side and is the company that my son works for, he is an Electronic Tech there, the company make electronc components for the transport industry here in Australia and such components as the speed limiters on trucks.

The interior of the car is now being build BUT the one problem I have come across is the roll cage set-up can anyone help, I am using 2mm thick solder how do I join this stuff together I know that soldering it will not work but will supaglue do the job.

Re: Galant Vr4 Rally Car

Good looking start. I have previously built roll-cages using 2mm styrene rod, which you can bend, file and glue to shape.

One suggestion - how about stripping the chrome off the rims and painting white, for a more "rally" look? I have recently used Mr Muscle oven cleaner to strip chrome of R32 GT-R rims then painted white in the usual way for a Winfield GT-R with no problems.

Re: Galant Vr4 Rally Car

I've Built this roll cage as an experiment to see if I can do it and I guess now I'll hafta set about and build it in styrene. PLEASE don't make a silly comment like it ain't straight as this is only a practise cage.

Re: Galant Vr4 Rally Car

Hey Dingo. Nice start on the cage. I am hardly an expert on scratch building roll cages (a couple from scratch and "enhanced" a few half-cages) but do you mind if I offer a few words of (hopefully) helpful advice?
First, check all the clearances between the cage and the body & roof with the glass installed - learnt that the hardway!
Second, check that the seats will still fit and not foul against the "B-pillar" bar.
Give yourself a cross bar for seatbelt attachment - you have gone to all that trouble, may as well put belts in.
Lastly, if possible remove the back seat as it will look more "racey".
As I said, I am hardly an expert, but I have made all these mistakes before.
Good luck!

Re: Galant Vr4 Rally Car

Looks cool, and nice find. I would clear it as it looks a bit orangy.
