Throttle Body Adjustment

Is there a way to adjust the throttle body on a 89 cherokee 4.0 in 6?
I heard there is a screw on the side of the throttle that you can adjust however mine doesnt have a screw just a hole where it appears to have had a screw in it, i was told however only carbs have the adjustable screw, would that be true or does my Jeep have a adjustable screw that i can open or close the throttle?

Re: Throttle Body Adjustment

I too have an 89 XJ, and yes there is a screw int eh TB to adjust BASE idle. The IAC however is actually the item that controls your RPM's. I would recommend that you first find a small screw that will work in the TB, or tap the hole to accept one, then adjust your base idle to about 800 RPM. See if this fixes your problem, on your TB were the cable connects there should be a piece of metal that the screw should rest on as a stop. I would strongly recommend R&R that O2 sensor, it will affect allot with how it runs too. STAY AWAY FROM ADVANCE AUTO, bad parts, go to NAPA or Auto Zone for your O2.
