$429 idler arm!

That's what a national chain want to charge me to replace a 99 burb K1500 idler arm.

I said no thanks. This chain seems to have gone down hill the past couple years.

Tried to pull the same crap with my father saying they couldn't loosen the tie rod end nuts. Funny, out normal mechanic had no problem.

Never buy a package alignment deal.

so what repair centre tried to make a few extra dollars ?

alignment and repairs for alignment should be repaired at different shops...

I have had this occur before, where they stated parts were worn...then on inspection at the other repair shop no defects where found...its very common...now and for many years I just align all this myself ...screw them all....

Re: $429 idler arm!

Find an honest local mechanic, and build a relationship there. My mechanic charges $85 an hour (very reasonable in this Phoenix area), will even install parts brought in by customer.

He just charged 3/4 hour to replace my oil sender, which points rearward and is under the distributor, very hard to access, and threads into a brass adapter that I broke last year. Owner, 2 other mechanics, owner usually does the work on mine himself. Remember, he needs to make a living, too, stay away from hopping around to try to save very little if any dollars.

I hear ya.

My whole family has used them for years for alignments and until recently have had a good experience...I guess under new management.

Started out good with all Americian stuff.

After a few years went to cheap anything stuff.
