ele transfer case ????

getting a grinding noise from the transfer case. it started two weeks ago. went to gas station and put in reverse and was like brakes were locked. forward and reverse and hiting the push button 4wd to 2 wd and it let loose. and drove it for a week and went to drive somewhere and put in gear and just grinding. anyidea?
