New 98 5.7 stalls when stopping
Just put a new 5.7 in my 98 C1500 with auto trans. Thing runs like a sewing machine, but when it warms up it dies when stopping or slowing for a turn. I can pop it into neutral and it fires right back up. One thing that I do notice is that the RPM's are staying above 1,000 before it dies. There are no codes.
I did a vacuum check plus sprayed brake cleaner all over the place so I do not think it is a vacuum leak. Plus I had the cam retard set to 0. Heard mention that it could be that the torque converter is staying locked up and dragging the engine down. But it worked fine before the new engine. I am clue less. ![]() ![]()

Re: New 98 5.7 stalls when stopping
My 1990 model 5.7 was acting the same way and I unplugged the egr valve and put a bolt in the end of the line going to it and it runs fine now. A mechanic was the one who told me to try it.He knew exactly what it was.

My EGR is electronic so I guess I can unplug it.

Re: New 98 5.7 stalls when stopping
Your 98 and the 90 that had egr problem are nite and day with regards to pcm. If you pull egr wires you will code. most things even TC problems should code. Fuel pressure problems usually dont code. You can also try cleaning MAF.The other thing bothering me is rpm at 1k which should be high enough not to stall. If it went to 400 or 500 it would make more sense to me , check all your wires since you just replaced eng
