Re: Explorer 2007 Trans oil change

It definitely doesn't surprise me that there is no dipstick for the transmission, these are sealed 5-speed automatic transmissions. It also doesn't surprise me that they give a 100k mile fluid change interval for 'normal' conditions. I had a 2004 Lincoln LS V8 with the same transmission. The recommended interval on that was 150k miles. However, I would suggest paying close attention to how Ford defines 'normal' driving. Unless they've changed recently, I'm not sure I'm aware of anyone who actually drives 'normally.' Unfortunately the manual doesn't do a good job of defining 'long distances' or 'extensive' - "Extensive idling and/or driving at low-speeds for long distances."

I just took a look at the 2007 Maintenance manual, I think you'll actually find that the 100k mile change interval is for the manual transmission. The maintenance manual seems to indicate the first interval for auto trannies without a dipstick to be 150k. I'm not sure I'll wait that long on mine.

Re: Explorer 2007 Trans oil change

Change the ATF at least 50,000 miles and 100,000 miles is too high.It is a pain to check the fluid level which requires a special tool and Ford started this in 2003.
