99 Blazer remote oil filter line replacement help

I'm replacing the lines to the remote oil filter on my 99 Blazer for the 3rd or 4th time. Unfortunately, I've had another person help each time and I'm having a little trouble. The line to the radiator was easy enough. Just remove the air box and lower cover. I had to use a 12" and 6" extension to get to the bolt that holds the rear mount to the engine block. My problem is: How do I fish the oil line(s)/block out? I've tried everything, and I have a clear view of the assembly. It just won't fit through the smaller opening. It won't go backwards either. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to pull the oil line(s)/block out? I would cut it up, but the new one has to go back through too.

Re: 99 Blazer remote oil filter line replacement help

I finally got ahold of my friend that helped me with this the past couple of times. He had to pull the motor mount bolt just above the driver's side wheel well. Then he lifted the engine slightly by placing a board under the oil pan and jacking it up just enough for the oil line to clear.

Smile Re: 99 Blazer remote oil filter line replacement help

I'm having to replace these because the lines leak where the aluminum is crimped to the rubber hoses. I tried putting hose clamps around them to keep them from leaking, but that doesn't work. They leaked just as bad. I've got an absolute mess of oil on the entire undercarriage of the car, lower front of the engine, and my driveway. The most recent lines were leaking at 3 of the 8 connections at a rate of about 1 drop every 3-4 seconds (that adds up to a lot). Oh, I also found that you don't have to pull the engine mount bolt. You can just lift the engine from the oil pan by placing a board under it for support and jacking it up the 1/2" you need to make the bracket clear. These lines have been notorious for problems on GM vehicles. A little search on the internet leads to a lot of comments. I have one sister with a Jimmy that leaks (99), one with a Bravado that leaks(01?), and someone I work with that own the identical vehicle to mine down to the color and nearly same mileage (155,000)...he's replaced his once then let it leak like crazy... I hope post helps someone who's looking to replace these. It is a simple job you can do yourself....once you know to jack the &^%%*&^ engine up 1/2 an inch.

Why don't you go to braided line? I think the hose is #8 & all the fittings are available. There was an article on one of these forums that showed pictures & all. It might of been right here do a search. I believe it was around a $100 fix.

Re: 99 Blazer remote oil filter line replacement help

I saw the post with the braided hoses, and I think that's an excellent solution. It's a little expensive up front, but compared to the amount of time and trouble I've had it would be worth it. You are correct, there is a link in one of the threads on this site. Thanks........
