Blower motor problems 2000+

I replaced my blower motor in my 2003. I did an autopsy to find what was causing it not to run until I kicked the box or a bump made it work. Most of the time for nearly a year it failed to start only rarely. but the frequency increased the last two months.

When I took off the end of my motor, the one brush was reluctant to move out toward the commutator. The brushes were still 3/8 inch or more long, but that one brush probably didn't make contact due to whatever was rubbing in its channel. After I got it to move out a lot of distance, it was just fine and goes in and out full stroke. So after the motor ran, that brush was worn slightly and didn't make contact until vibration moved the rotor a little and contact was made.

If I could figure out how to hold the brushes while I put the metal end of the motor back on, I probably have a working motor.

How do I get the brushes back in place?????
