97 cavalier Died 178K
Just bragging about this car (to myself) the ugliest car on the planet but damn it runs good! Going to Walmart this AM. Stopped at turn light and it started running on 3cyls (pretty rough) still running for maybe 4 min allowed me to get to the parking lot then dead and coasted into the pk space. Extreme gas smell upon exiting, turns over, no start, seems like flooding out? I put in a pressure regulator last fall and all seemed GREAT. Over the years, lots of miles but pretty good care.
Questions would be, can an injector stick open? Ideas? I don't mind buying a code reader if I need to.... 2.2 Auto.... Last edited by pjl2000; 08-30-2009 at 05:39 AM. Reason: eng size and tran |

Re: 97 cavalier Died 178K
An injector could stick open, but one wouldn't make the engine die. Two might make it die, but having two stick open at the same time is very unlikely.
Check for spark, if you don't have any (or missing on two cylinders), make sure the PCM is getting a signal from the CKP sensor. If it is, most likely the ignition module is bad.

Re: 97 cavalier Died 178K
I know this sounds primitive, but i had this happen to me on an olds and the damn fuel rail cracked where the line comes in, still ran but like ass for a minute, died, fuel smell, etc.
see if you can find a fuel leak? |
