98 century will not start
Hello, I have a '98 Century w/ 98,000 miles, Yesterday it started to run rough while driving it, after parking it at the doctors it would not start, I checked the code and it came up with a P0305, #5 misfire. I got it back to my shop, changed the plugs wire's and fuel filter. Still no start! It turns over fine, spits and sputter's but no start. I checked the fuel pressure it's around 45psi, checked for spark, looks good, seems to be getting fuel the plugs are wet. Any Ideas would be great!!! Thanks for looking!!

Update: I did a compression check and cyl. 1-4 have 175psi and 5 & 6 have no compression at all. I pulled back the front valve cover only a little, and could see the rockers on # 6 where not moving at all, they rest where. Now I'm realy stumped. Bent valve? bad cam? kind of weird on 2 cyl. Any help would be great!!

Unfortunately, if you have no compression at all then either the valves are bent and stuck in the open position or the valves are burnt. Since you said that the valves on #6 aren't moving I think the issue may be that the cam or timing chain have an issue. Unless you have a camera capable of looking inside an engine you will have to tear the engine apart to see what is actually going on.

Thanks for your input, I pulled the intake and found some bad news, The cam broke right in the middle, it also has a bent valve and a bad lifter. Pretty bad! Any one ever herd of that?

A broken cam can result in a lot of issues. It may be cheaper to purchase a used engine to replace this one. You didn't say the size of engine but there are several areas you can purchase one from. I suggest Ed Morad at moradpartscompany.com. I don't know if he will have an engine for your car but he is reputable. He has an e-bay store but contacting him direct will get you the best price. Of course you can check local wrecking yards for prices at car-part.com. Let us know what you decide to do.

Thank you for your input! I am going to take your advise and replace the motor. I found one at a local yard for $375. It is a 3.1L Thanks again!!! -Tony
