Need your opinion with Exhaust

I have a 1997 GTP with 160K miles. Mods include the following

3.4 Thrasher MPS
1.9 ZZP High Ratio Rockers
ZZP Front PEM
Ceramic Coated Crossover Pipe
3 in ZZP Stainless downpipe
ZZP Ported LIM
Custom CAI
ZZP Throttle body spacers
ZZP PCM
ZZP Fuel Pump Rewire Kit
ZZP Alternator Booster kit
180 Degree thermostat
NGK Iridium 6's
PRJ 10.4 mm Race wires

I am looking into purchasing an exhaust system next from ZZP and was wondering if anyone has had any luck with their systems. I am looking for a system that will give me a nice deep throaty tone without a raspy sound. I am currently considering the aluminized exhaust system to save a little money, but I am wondering if I will be sacrifiicng quality over the stainless system. Also should I run a resonator or not? Proflow or Magnaflow mufflers?

What's your guys opinion?

Hi,

I've never heard of proflow but I would say that Magnaflow is the way to go for throaty but not raspy compared to other mufflers.

Most local custom exhaust shops can custom make a system for you.

Aluminum will rot over time.

Should I go with a 2.5in or 3 in system? Otherwise should I consider getting ZZP stainless headers instead? I already have a front PEM. How much more of a gain should I expect with the ZZP headers?

Anyone else have an opinion? I have about $600 to spend on my next car mod.

2.5" system. Headers are superior over PEMs. On the average about a 25 hp increase with headers. However, with most headers the power band will shift from mid-range to high which isn't a bad thing either. The L67 engine especially with boost mods has enough torque to make up for any possible low end loss. I run SLP aluminum ceramic coated headers and very happy with them.

I agree on the 2.5" stainless. That's what I have on mine. I also scrapped the resonator and I'm happy with it.

Re: Need your opinion with Exhaust

Whats the overall effect of removing the resonator? I want a deep tone but nothing too loud were I'll piss off my neighbors. I also wanted to go with a 2.5 inch system but ZZP had a gently used 3in stainless dp and I jumped on the buy. Is there potentially any problems with having a 3in dp and 2.5 exhaust?
