Re: 90 taurus 3.0 won't start

I think your 1990 will still have a distributor (it's been years since I've seen one). I believe the pickup unit in the distributor is pretty important in helping the PCM know when to fire the injectors. Ignition modules back then were pretty common issues in Fords, but since you claim you have spark, that's probably not the issue. Although it kind of appears that the signal to the PCM to fire injectors may be through the Ignition Control Module....

yes it has a distrubitor,,,with scanner hooked up can read live data from processor,,,,engine temp throttle position voltage ect ect fuel pulse 0.0 when cranking.....what would be the logical piece to replace or beat on,,,hate trial and error repairs,,,,this thing really should go to the junk yard,,,when done ,,,still is a $500.00 car but it will get some one back and forth to work with out spending $20,000 thankx

Re: 90 taurus 3.0 won't start

Many of the chain auto parts stores used to have ignition module testers. I'm not sure how reliable they are, or how many of the parts stores still have them with a staff that knows how to use them, but it might be worth a shot. Or, if you have an oscilloscope and are good at safely backprobing connectors, you could verify if the ICM is getting and sending good data. With a multimeter you could do a quick check to make sure the fuel injectors are getting power. I think they use a common positive and the PCM switches ground to open the injectors. If there is an open in the supply side, or a blown fuse, that could explain no pulse. I'm not sure that would result in a reading of 0.0 on the scan tool though since they PCM would still be trying to provide some pulse width. Are there any stored codes for the PCM?
