Air Pump

Would someone be willing to post instructions on how to use a vacuum pump to check the solenoids. I have the P0410 code and read on the forum to use the vacuum pump but I have never used one before so am not sure what I need to do, how to hookup, use. 2000 intrigue 3.5.

Re: Air Pump

The 2002-2003 Aurora shared the same engine 3.5L as the Intrigue. There is a website devoted to Aurora club of North America. This engine was put in the second generation Aurora-- By clicking on the How To forum you will find instructions for testing and replacing the rubber gaskets in the solenoids. Some people have had short term success cutting new gaskets inside the valves.

Re: Air Pump

Another method I received to you can try :"I also had this code. I did not end up checking the solenoids with a vacuum tester but ruled out the bad solenoid by process of elimination. I disconnected the vacuum hose from the solenoid near the air filter box, plugged the hose, reset the CEL, and drove around for a couple of days - code returned. I then re-attached the vacuum hose to the solenoid, disconnected the vacuum hose from the solenoid near the coolant reservoir, plugged that hose, reset the CEL. The code has not returned in several months. I now know that the solenoid near the coolant reservoir is bad.

It looks like that as long as one solenoid is working, the PCM recognizes the air pump system as functioning properly. However, a problem arises when one solenoid is leaking by because then it is not possible to draw a vacuum on the other, working solenoid."..........................

Update: Tried this method which was sent to me and the method in the post above. Both worked well for me and pointed to the passenger side.

Re: Air Pump

I had the SAIR pump replaced in January 2009 because of DTC P0410 and after that my 2001 Olds Intrigue ran ok but SES lit up and startup has become increasingly rough the past couple months. Someone mentioned that it might be a vacuum leak, so I took it to Autozone to see what the computer said. They scanned it and found that it was DTC P0418 which represents SAIR Pump Relay Control Circuit Malfunction (also seems to be referred to as Secondary Air Injection System Control "A" Circuit). I do not understand what this means-might I need a new relay for the pump?

Re: Air Pump

I believe so. The relay should be an easy inexpensive fix.

Re: Air Pump

I am having a similar problem, I had the whole air pump replaced along with the relay and had the whole system pressure tested, and the electrical components. I still am having a problem with the engine light staying on and I've had all recommended repairs done and all they are willing to offer me is to repair it all again. however when I got the car all components were bad the pump relays and electricals, now everything is new and working but the engine light will not stay off.
