1995 Impala SS - Fuel Fumes

Hi All,

Lately, I’ve smelled strong gas fumes around my car on the outside when I start it up but I haven’t noticed any leaks on the ground. The smell is there for a while when I turn off the car.

Any suggestions or ideas as to how go about detecting a fuel leak safely?

Thanks,

use you eyes and a strong light..follow the lines back to the fuel tank...

could be a bad steel line at the fuel pump external to the tank...then if its leaking in that area you must drop the fuel tank...

could also be the plastic lines are damaged,,,the fuel filter connections...

it is also possible the cannister/fuel vapor lines are defective passengerside front bumper..
