AC pump question.

As most of you may have heard, i fixed my AC after it not working for about 8 years. I recharged the AC (which has been dead empty for all these years) with R134 which said it contained oil in it. My question is, do i need to put in any additional oil? I just don't want to sieze anything up causing an even bigger problem then i had before.

the oil amount is not critical....if you put too much it will not work as efficent...

your system uses around 8OZ...the oil to use would be the type that states its compatible with the R12 system ......

if you notice the compressor is a little noisey ,,,and the refrigerent leaks out the compressor shaft seal add 4OZ...of this special oil with the refrigerent..

Re: AC pump question.

You cannot use PAG oil, you have to use ester. PAG is incompatible with R12 and even though you have converted the system, there's still residue of the old in the system (even though it was evacuated). Ester is compatible with either refrigerant and is commonly sold as "conversion oil".

I managed to get my hands on some of this ester oil..it came in a plastic container, but that confused me because how and where do i put it into the system? Shouldn't it have come in a pressurized can or something like that?

yes this also comes in a pressurized can,,,usually 4/8oz...of oil...did you ever add the oil with the R12 to r134 retro kit ???or did you just add R134???

I'm gunna tell you what you DONT wanna hear and say that i just added the 134 lol..i'm sure you know this but that stuff says it includes some oil in it, although i'm sure it wasn't enough and it was also the PAG crap when i should be using ester. Its cooled off around here though so i can count on one hand how many times i used the AC and it was never for that long either.

I think i might have to return this stuff..i have no clue how to add it into my system, its a plastic bottle, not pressurized, and it looks like the kind of thing that you'd pour like a a quart of oil, i think its 8oz too if i remember correctly. Theres no directions on it either..looks like i might have some trouble finding the right stuff.

Of course, it totally depends on how you do the work. Yes, it comes in a pressurized can. Do not use more than 4oz unless you don't want your AC to work well (ask me how I know this).

I get the stuff that's pourable - I pour 4 oz into the accumulator using a funnel (after removing one of the lines). Either way works.
