A/C problem
I have a 93 C-1500 with a 5.0 motor. My problem is with the A/C clutch not engaging. At first, it was working fine, then it would just quit working for awhile then it would come back on (blowing cold air then blowing warm air). It did this for a few days, but now, it won't blow cold air at all anymore & the A/C clutch doesn't engage. I tried adding a can of freon to it but that didn't work, it wouldn't take any of it, & the gauge on the can said it had like 110 lbs of pressure in it (low-side) which is way too much. But when I jump the A/C clutch with a jumper wire from battery it kicks on & blows cold air too. But only while it's jumped. I thought it might be my low-side pressure switch, so I jumped the terminals on it(not with battery thou, just wire across the terminals) & when i turn on the A/C it blows the main fuse instantly. So I'm kind of stuck on what to do now. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do next? If so I would really appreicate it. Thanks in advance...JT2Fast4u

Re: A/C problem
after you put a new fuse in it--Next time you think it should be on- bump front of clutch with blunt object- see if clutch engages- higher mileage vehicles- tend to wear the air gap too wide- and the magnetic pull can't pull the clutch in across that wide air gap-when coil gets warm- measure your air gap-- it needs to be at .020" to be good-- yours is probably .050+"
