everyday starting problems

i have a 2000 buick regal supercharged 3.8. about 2 months ago the engine would not turn over. i took it to the shop and they replaced the fuel pump. now when i go to start the car i have to turn the key and wait for the fuel pump to engage then try to start it. it never starts the first time. then i have to turn the key, wait for the fuel pump, the start the car. i have to do this every time. i was thinking it may be the ignition switch. any suggestions

Re: everyday starting problems

When you take the ignition switch to run do you hear the fuel pump prime for 2 seconds? Best to check fuel pressure at the front fuel rail. 48-55 psi. Also, another issue is a bad fuel pump resistor that ties into the fuel pump hi-speed relay. Your fuel pressure may be too low to start the vehicle since it technically has a two speed fuel pump. If you need the fuel pump resistor test/bypass procedure let me know.

Re: everyday starting problems

yes i can hear it prime. but it never starts the first time. i have to allow it to prime a second time before it will start. also i have to hit the gas for it to start. the test/bypass procedure would be great. thanks

Re: everyday starting problems

See link below. The relay for a L67 Regal GS is #18 instead of the one mentioned but the procedure is the same. Also you did replace the fuel filter? Another possible cause is the fuel pressure regulator but try the bypass procedure first. Good luck.
