Anyone ever buy a Carter fuel pump?

After replacing my fuel sending unit two weeks ago, my car died yesterday. Thinking that I had a blocked fuel filter, I went to tackle that this morning. New inline filter, and nothing.
So, I pull the fuse for the radio, so I can possibly hear the fuel pump, and nada. I swap relays from the AC to the Fuel Pump, nothing. I check the Fuel Pump fuse, still intact. Well, I call the local Honda Stealership, since they are close, and there are NO Isuzu dealers (or remnants) around, and find out that they have to order a fuel pump, and that he can offer me a discount down to $357 something for it. I told him I would get back to him later today, if I needed it.

I get online, and lo and behold, several places have them, from $107 from an eBay store in CA, to a place called Rock Auto (bosch and carter at $383 and $227 respectively). I jumped in and ordered the Carter, with the same warranty as the Bosch.

Did I miss the boat? Is Carter a respected name? I know Bosch, for certain, but trying to save a little cash, did I make a mistake, or hit a home run? While I wait for the part to arrive, I thought I would throw out this info.

Thanks in advance

The Carter fuel pump is just fine. The name has been around for decades.

Cool. I hope this is what it is. I still am not 100% positive. I am about to drop the tank again, and verify that the pump is getting power, etc.

Re: Anyone ever buy a Carter fuel pump - UPDATE

OK. SO, no fuel from the pump when I pull the line at the fuel filter and crank it over. Is there a safety valve or something that would permit this from working, if the pump is NOT the problem? I know nothing about modern pressurized fuel systems.

No, there is no inertia activated fuel shut-off. That's mainly a Ford thing.

NEW Carter fuel pump - installed - line leaking after shutoff

Well, it was the pump, and now it is installed.

But.... where once was no fuel leak (return line, I think) there is now. I guess I am going to drop this tank for a third time (in three weeks) sometime this weekend.

I have attached a side by side comparison of these two. Notable differences are:
  1. No locator tab on the top of the device - meaning you have to know the proper implementation to put this in.
  2. The supplied gaskets (two) are not compatible with the opening of our tanks (given they are Isuzu tanks).
  3. The paperwork says "fuel pump for your GM", or something to that effect - I see why the gaskets are different.
  4. The FSU is sideways on this new unit, and is NOT COMPATIBLE with the old sending units, meaning, when I go to replace the next sending unit, who knows what model to get. My suggestion is a new pump (on eBay for $80 - which I found after ordering this one at $233).
  5. This one required ALL my 225 lbs to push in, using the old gasket, to lock in, and put the snap ring back on. At least it went on.
SO, now I have to find out if my gauge will work, or if I need an ECM upgrade/stealership intervention to make it work. Other than that, I need to find out why one of my lines is leaking. I think I have a loose connection, or broken line. I am about fed up with this, but once its solid again, I will be good to go....

Photo is under "specs" for this site (had to ruin it to make it under 100k), and it still wont upload, so here is the link, to see the side by side comparison.
