Unhappy Reverse issue. Regal with problems.

So a few weeks ago I purchased a 99 buick regal lse. and I knew when I bought it it had some problems.. .. but the longer I work on this the more problems I'm finding. and this last issue I found today may be the nail in the coffin.. so I havent been able to drive this for distances due to the fact that first it wouldn't stay running.. ( ignition, directional sw replaced) , didn't know the true mileage ( tried the resistor diy fix) I was told it had 152,000 the odometer said 160,330 when I started and said 160,460 when I finished ( odometer adds 10 miles every time it is disconnected and reconnected) and then it wouldnt stop since it had a hole in the brake line (replaced line). so I finally got it ready to give it a decent test drive, i test drove it before I bought it and it drove and it seemed to reverse fine but as I was backing it out of the driveway I noticed it seems like the car was struggling.. as if I had the parking brake set ( NO IT WAS NOT SET) drive engages firmly and there are no hard shifts. but when shifting from park to reverse or neutral to reverse you don't "feel" it. when you apply the gas it eventually goes in reverse but it seems as if it's not fully in gear. you have to rev the engine to get it to move in reverse. I checked the fluid before I bought it and it seemed at the right level and it was still pinkish but it was def old maybe original but there were no metal flakes in it and it didn't smell burnt so I took it for the test drive anyways.. and HOLY CARP does this car move... like I said drive works absolutely fine.. but especially with reverse being used less.. does anyone have any ideas?? I'm hoping there an easy fix because I bought this car hoping to replace what I'm currently driving.. ( 99ford zx2). but if I'm going to have to replace the tranny anyways I might as well do it in the ford since it's cheaper.. any help anyone??

Thanks for any info in advance?

Re: Reverse issue. Regal with problems.

First and best thing to try would be to get the transmission serviced. Replace the fluid AND the filter.

See how it performs after that, but never overfill.

Other forums recommend adding some transmission additive - Lucas for about $10, and again never overfill.

Re: Reverse issue. Regal with problems.

I thought my Regal tranny was dead and was set to scrap it,(sticking in 1st) but I put half a bottle of Lucas tranny fix in 1 1/2 years ago and after about 100 miles it solved the issue.(There is also a fluid at NAPA which costs $25 but can't remember the name. It's in a black bottle) Its still humming along after 10k miles! I was told by a junk yard guy (who also sells used cars) that the internal rubber gets stiff causing the slipping and non-shifting.(He has never had a come-back on a used vehicle).

Good luck.
