I can tell you the flat rate on it is 4 hours. I had it done. It cost me about $300. I went down to the shop before they finished & I was so glad I let them do it. The whole dash was laying there, wires, everywhere. That was the best $300 I ever spent. When it was done everything worked as it is suppose to. The best was I was driving it home that afternoon.

Man, that mechanic sure wished he didn't pull that ticket that day I am sure! This is not an easy job and it is definitely a long one if are not used to doing repairs. As everyone says, step 1: pull dashboard off, step 2: pull heatbox off.

Just a tip, there is a hidden bolt on the firewall side inside the heaterbox that usually trips everyone up.

I have to agree with Blazerguy. If you don't have the patients and time. Look around for a good shop and get price quotes. I did one and spent the weekend doing it. Good luck.

. Book gives 8.5 took about 3 hrs. The 98 model is harder to do. I started by taking the hoses aloose. Then move the blower resister. Look down in there---unscrew a bolt going the firewall into the blower housing. There is a stud coming through the firewall in the middle. Takes 7/16 socket--take care of that one. Now go to the inside and take the whole dash and put it in the backseat. Scews at the top. A 10mm headed bolt on each side. Drop the column down. Need to do some unplugging. Remove glovebox and you got a big electrical connector-use 7mm socket. A vac. connector. Get some slack going for the ant. cable. IMPORTANT-- Take aloose one connector at bcm(plastic box in middle). The one at the top going to dash.I almost pulled it by the roots. After pulling the dash back a little you will see a connector on driver's side with big wires---get it. And get the ant. cable out the back of radio. None of this bad to do. The housing has a 10mm headed bolt at bottom and two screws coming in backwards through the firewall. Undo the bolt. I used a hammer and big screwwdriver on the other two underthere. Yank back-do the core.

Check the how-to section for a step by step w/ pics. I used it for my 99 and was diligent about writing down each step, tagging, and bagging parts. Took me 8-9 hrs as an average DIY'er and had no problems afterwards. It was extremely satisfying to save $1100. Take pics just in case you can't remember location, etc. good luck
