Re: 1977 Monte Carlo Starter trouble
First thing I would check would be to make sure all the connections are tight and clean, including the battery cables on the battery, the negative cable is properly grounded, etc. Is the battery fully charged? How are the cables, are they new? If not some corrosion could have gotten in under the insulation, causing resistance. This usually occurs where the battery end is, and may not be visible.

Re: 1977 Monte Carlo Starter trouble
Quote:
When a starter motor is energized, the armature is subjected to considerable force. If the bronze bushings are worn, the armature is physically shoved against the magnets or housing. This contact slows down the starter's rotation. It sometimes is tough to diagnose because, when there is no electrical flow, the armature appears to spin freely. Sometimes, these bushings are not replaced when a starter is "rebuilt". |
