Question 04 3400 GASE Power surges.

The g/f had been driving the car, and doesn't pay attention as much as I'd like, so I don't know how long it has been doing this, but it seems to miss a bit on cold start up. The outside air temp is around upper seventies to mid eighties here. Anyway, sitting at a stoplight, and the pavement was wet, stepped on the gas, and tires went to spinning which isn't normal since I didn't romp on it or anything, rpms were well under 3k. let off until the tires stopped spinning, and gave it a little more gas to get out of the intersection, and it spun out again. and once again the rpms were too low to be feeling this kind of torque on the wheels. It might have been just an oily spot on the road, but it did this earlier at a different intersection on dry pavement, it just didn't have the second spin out.

Were the wheels straight or you were turning? If turning that is normal since body will roll to the opposite side and the wheel that caries less weight at that moment will spin especially if wet and tires are old. If going straight it could be because it was wet and tires are bald. Or tell your girlfriend that Kerosene is not for cars.

Re: 04 3400 GASE Power surges.

How many miles on this 3.4 ?
And when was the last tune up ?

Surging is usualy a vacuum leak on the intake or the IAC is clogged/faulty.

And the spinning could indicate a wheel speed sensor was flaking out, especialy when its wet outside. Or if the ETS is turned off it'll spin wet or dry.

FYI Roads are slickest in the first 3-5 minutes after/during a rain.
Just enough water to mix with oils on the pavement making it slick, but not yet enough to wash all the oils away.

No ETS. It was going straight, and there is still decent rubber left on the tires. The car is still under 50K miles. And it had been raining all morning.

Yeah most likly the rain and type of tires, just spin happy.
If they are the factory good year RS's, they suck in wet/snow.
