also...
the SH and base have the same trans and final drive.

the difference is in the ATTS system. which has nothing to do with the gearing.

H22a Tranny

The final drive ratio depends on which car the tranny came from.

Which tranny are you refering to?

Prelude VTEC USDM/JDM/EDM/ADM
Accord Euro R

There are three different final drive ratios

I need to know which tranny you're starting with in order to be able to give you the available choices.

tranny

Are you planing on using a turbo or nitrous setup?

If, so get a Prelude S (base model) tranny or final drive gears.

If, not ( All Motor ) get the final drive from a H22a (USDM Prelude or Euro R Accord).

Final Drive

I have not decided where I am going but I know I am not going to use a final drive made by honda, unless the current Euro R / TSX final drive would work. I found a 4.7xxx final drive. All the SI's atround the world had, at best, a 4.266 and the s you recomend for a turbo is less than that. I was looking for other options like the 4.7xxx.

Tranny

What is your intended purpose for the car?

Do you understand gearing?

The higher the number, the taller the gear, the shorter the gear is.
The lower the number, the shorter the gear, the longer the gear.

If drag racing is the intended purpose than you need only to concern your self with 1st through 4th. If it's for road racing, you have to redo all the gears as well as the final drive ratio.

Fifth gear is for highway use, like an overdrive. In the case of the different tranny's, my prelude s tranny was just going into fourth at the end of the 1/4 mile, now it's in the middle at the end. A prelude vtec tranny would be well into fourth at the end. The "S"'s fourth is almost the same as the "Vtec"'s fifth gear ratio. The final ratio makes a big difference also.

Head to head, I shift like this;
S; 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th
Vtec; 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th

That was before the turbo. Now I shift before the Vtec only because of the increased power.

Shorter gearing keeps you in the power band longer and requires less shifting which losses less time. But there are a lot of variables.

The car has to be geared for it's real intended purpose. Mine is geared for road racing.
