Engine burning oil

1997 Eagle Talon 2.0 ESI has 109,000 miles and is burning a little oil. Should I change to a different weight oil or synthetic, which one is the best?

Re: Engine burning oil

every engine burns a little oil, some of it gets inside the cylinder where it gets burned. just top it up.

Re: Engine burning oil

I use a product called "smoke away". you can get it at advance auto. It works great, it even helps lubricate the motor on start ups, since the oil drains back into the pan over night. It last for about 2,000 miles then starts to burn a little again. I just watch the level for the next 1,000 miles. then change it. then start the process all over again.

Re: Engine burning oil

Yea as long as it still runs good just keep topping it off. You can try smoke away, it might help some. Depending on where you live you may could run a little thicker oil, it the summer it shouldn't be a problem but it may get to cold for it in the winter.
