I have a 1995 windstar(3.8). When it is running the temp gauge will get to hot before the fans kick on. Could this be the CCRM (constant control relay module)? When the temp gauge reads above 1/2 way the fans will not kick on also. 195 degree stat in it.

Re: Fans

There are 2 fan speeds.....LOW and HIGH.
AT a given temperature, the PCM sends a signal to the CCRM to energize 1 relay to turn the LOW speed fans ON, using a dropping resistor to lower the voltage applied to keep the fans at LOW speed.
It is VERY COMMON for the radiator fan DROPPING RESISTOR to fail.

If the coolant temperature continues to rise, the PCM sends a signal to the CCRM to energize 2 different relays (due to more current) to turn the radiator fans ON at HIGH speed with FULL voltage applied.

Here is a picture of the radiator fan dropping resistor, located on the top of the metal front bumper, below the passenger side headlight.
As you can see.....it is visible when looking down as in the picture.

To test to see if the low speed radiator fan operation is OK, with the motor running at idle.....turn the A/C ON, the radiator fans should come ON and STAY ON.
If they don't, first thing to check is the dropping resistor.

I have had the CCRM fail.......but the dropping resistor is more likely......and is cheaper.

Re: Fans

I am not up on the '94 SHO, but if it has a Idle Air Control (IAC), you might check that.
Common symptom of IAC sticking is stalling when your foot is not on the accellerator.
Try cleaning it first with WD-40 or SeaFoam Deep Creep (spray version of SeaFoam).

Otherwise, before spending money on the exotic......make sure that you are up to date on the routine maintenance items......and some Berryman's B-12 Chemtool fuel system cleaner in the gas tank to clean the injectors out.
