a/c clutch

i got a 92 grand prix se
i put new freon in my a/c today and it didnt get cold but it didnt get hot , it was cool. even after i drive the car a while.
i noticed my a/c clutch plate ( the outside plate ) is real loose. i also know that auto zone has a clutch plate removed, it will fit i think but theres is too much crap in the way. they said it copuld be the clutch berring out.
is it possible somehow for me to remove the plate while its still on the car or do i have to remove the compressor to get the plate off to see if the berring is bad.
