Has anyone had any problems with the Humbrol metal cote polished aluminium spray? I bought some earlier and it seems to come out all watery and clear is mine labelled up wrong or is there a problem?

Thanks

Re: Humbrol Metalcote - Polished Aluminium

You probably just need to shake it up more to get a thicker finish.

Re: Humbrol Metalcote - Polished Aluminium

Hi

The problem is that Humbrol is so much the last century so to speak. These colours came out in the 1980'es IIRC and probably hasn't changed formula since. Humbrol metal colours uses very big metallic particles that doesn't ever seem right or even remotely looking like 'metal'. Alclad is more difficult to handle but is airbrush only. Even Modelmaster metallic paints are way better than Humbrol. I do only use Humbrol for small detailpainting. Haven't used it for a car finish in decades. Slow drying (and dust catching!) gloss paints isn't my thing I'm afraid. Try something else - if possible naturally - and be positively surprised!

Re: Humbrol Metalcote - Polished Aluminium

The Alclad II label says "Shake well" or something to that effect. That should be taken seriously. You need to gently stir most paints to mix the solvent and the pigment, but Alclad won't cover properly unless it's shaken vigorously before each use.
