2002 Town & Country ABS, Brake, and TCS light on

Here is the deal, I have a 2002 Town & Country Limited, i replaced both from wheel ABS speed sensors, no luck with this problem. The speedometer appears to work fine but I was told it could still be the input or output speed sensor on the transmission causing the idiot light problem. The ABS, Brake, and Traction Control idiot lights come on when I start the car before I even move it. Has anyone had this problem on a 2002 or similar T7C and how did you resolve it. I hate to spend $600 on the ABS control unit to find out it isn't the problem. Please help?

Why not scan the ABS module for codes. That has to be a lot less than $600!?!?

Re: 2002 Town & Country ABS, Brake, and TCS light on

I have had mixed results with the dealers in my area, if they scan it they are going to say the most expensive part is bad and soak me $600 at the least, you don't think they will actually tell me the truth, do you? I need some honest individuals here to help me out on this, the dealer said the scan is 1 to 2 hours labor at $90 per hour, can you say RIP OFF? I would be into it for $180 before it was even fixed, no thanks!

I was wondering what the input and output speed sensors do for the vehicle and if one or both of them could be the culprit. The speedo works fine as does the tach but I do get a sloppy 1st gear sometimes, when I start it I get the idiot lights "Brake, ABS, and Trac Off". The van has 102,000 miles on it and is well taken care of. I'm thinking if nobody can tell me what the input and output speed sensors do I'll just remove the ABS module and send it to ModuleMaster.com for a $100 rebuild, they will test it for free prior to rebuilding it. I never hear the ABS pump run or any noise out of the usual for that fact.

Shotgunning parts can be as hard on your wallet as handing it over to a dealer. Before you push it over a cliff try your own scanner. There are many good deals out there. This is one:

Hardly shotgunning at this point, I'm here asking questions to get ideas and to educate myself. You need a special scanner to scan the ABS brake system, my ODBII won't do it. In addition the 2 sensors are $17 each and the ABS controller is a $100 rebuild. I'm just trying to figure it out with some help from my online friends.

Any shop with a snap on scanner or an OTC scanner will be able to scan the ABS system for codes. The ABS light on for a chrysler product is nothing out of the ordinary. Many times there is a simple and easy solution to the problem. Without knowing what the codes are there no way we could tell you where to start. All guessing has done you is wasted time and money. Go with the sure thing and at least find out why the light is one and then focus your time/resources in that direction.

The input speed sensor and the output speed sensor have nothing to do with the ABS. They are for engine/transmission management. If one of these had failed there would be a check engine light only and the transmission would have gone into limp mode which you would have noticed!

Guess I was unclear. When I said "use your own scanner", I was refering you to the link and the decent deal on the ABS scanner listed there. It appears we are all giving you the same advice - get the codes. Can't force you to take it but it has the potential to save money, time and headaches in the long run. Hopefully an ABS system wiz will chime in here with the golden nugget you're looking for.

Ebay has what appears to be the same ABS scanner listed for $115. There are many listed.
