TRANSMISSION PROBS(contd)
let me start off by saying
times 1000.....Ok. For those of you not hip to my recent trans problems, I have a 97 rs of coarse, its n/t w/ turbo, and i have had quite a time with the local trans shop. I prob. need more help and advice with than any other post ive ever made. It all started when i had a bad sync gear, and later down the road, the clutch began slipping permanently...so I went to aamco transmissions here in my city, and had the bad sync gear changed out, and a new clutch and flywheel installed. The rest of the gears and everything are replaced and reconditioned. The clutch and flywheel, couldnt be better. No complaints there. As for the sync...perfectly fine. Everything is good and im a happy camper at this point. This work had a 90 day warranty.($2100 spent this time) 2 months after the warranty goes up, im driving down the road one night, and notice that i cant even shift into second all of a sudden, then the transm locks up and wont go into any gear. I force it into 3rd and make my way home with my flashers on. I take it back to to the transm shop, and they diagnose it for a day or so, and it turns out that "something broke loose and gummed up the fluid passages, causing it to overheat and lock up" or some shit. I have no choice, as im a full time student, and hold down a full time job, but to get it fixed as soon as possible($1100). 90 day warranty. Guess what. I doubt many of you will believe this, as it is truely, unbelieveable. 2 months after the warranty goes up, now its making a constant tink tink tinking noise....anytime the car is on. Not a big problem, mind you, but a problem none the less, which could easily get bigger, with my luck.(For those of you who wish to know the details of the problem, it only makes the noise if the car is running, with no feet ont he pedals, and as soon as I press the clutch pedal in, it stops...) Heres where it gets really good. I took it in yest. to be diagnosed(a third time) and the guy calls me today and informs me that I should have put the turbo model transm in last time instead of getting a brand new one thats just the same as the old one, because gear ratios this and turbo that. Apparently, The gears in the turbo model tranny are made to withstand the stresses of a turbo kit(which I understand and all) and then he goes on to say "sir just come pick up your vehicle, im no longer interested in working on it" and he got real rude and shitty towards me, and we had words, and long story short, i cussed him out and got my car back, and am now int he process of filling out forms for the better business bureau. My question to you guys is, has anyone ever heard of swapping a turbo tranny on a non turbo engine...like will the bolts line up? this douche bag swears by it, and actually, i called the dealership, and they say it has been done, and can be done, and is actually suggested... However, I believe you guys more than anyone...and would just LOVE your input Aint life (a few)grand? ![]() *any next transm i buy will be installed by ME...i may as well invest in the tools and do it myself...i am certified after all. Dont know why i didnt do this in the first place...

Re: TRANSMISSION PROBS(contd)
The turbo is not the problem. Our trannys are not weak by any mean. I have never had any trouble and there are plenty of guys putting down over 400hp that dont have any trouble either. You may just want to buy a used one. Sucks that you have had so much trouble with this shop but transmissions are funny and you can mess them up super easy if you dont know what your doing.
And no your cant bolt a 4g63 tranny up. ITS NOT POSSIBLE and I dont care what he or the dealership says.

Re: TRANSMISSION PROBS(contd)
I had a feeling youd tell me that...bc moments before logging onto here, i was doing research and found out that its way out of reason...apparently the 4g63 turbo trans goes ont he opposite side of the engine that the 420a one does...if im not mistaking...(just read that)
So, this brings me back to my original question in the very beginning...if the trans is brand spankin new(well, remanufactured) and ive only had it for like 5 months, and havent run it very hard at all(prob not as hard as you guys do, and not as often) what in the world could the ticking noise be now...based on my reported symptoms...

Re: TRANSMISSION PROBS(contd)
haha....wow...
I just called aamco home office, and it seems they have changed their home office calling procedures.... now instead of directing me to a customer service rep, it ONLY sais "thank you for claling aamco, please enter a 5 digit zip code so that we may direct your call to the nearest aamco service center in your area" .......i think im going to dress up like rambo and go apeshit

So anytime the car is running it ticks, but when you push the clutch is goes away? Is the ticking consistant, like tick-tick-tick, or like tick-tick-----tick-tick----tick---tick...? If it's only doing this when you push the clutch, it has something to do with the clutch. I'm assuming you got a new clutch installed correct? Stock or Aftermarket? Is it an OEM throw out bearing?

Thanks SO much for your help...

Re: TRANSMISSION PROBS(contd)
I have a LUK replacement also in mine. The TOB (throw out bearing) is not OEM. When the temperature gets cold outside, it makes a grinding noise and goes away when clutch is pressed in. Does it until the tranny heats up some. Very annoying. It may be something with the clutch itself though; can't diagnose the problem too much more. Could be something like the TOB wasn't lubed up enough before reinstalling. But it seems to me there's something with the TOB.
Only way to fix something with the clutch is to seperate the 2 and pull the clutch out.

Re: TRANSMISSION PROBS(contd)
nevermind...
looks like clutch masters makes a clutch for my car, and also a flywheel... clutch masters is good stuff right? pretty reputable...? can you mix and match clutch kits with flywheels? like mix and match the make of them...

Re: TRANSMISSION PROBS(contd)
I wouldn't buy a clutch from them. Also make sure your not getting a clutch for the 4g63 engine. Us 420a guys have to run neon clutches.

Re: TRANSMISSION PROBS(contd)
And also you have to watch out for the fact that it may be eClutch Masters. On eBay for example those are all over the place. Kind of a "rip-off" version of that brand.

Re: TRANSMISSION PROBS(contd)
so, what your saying is, I need to buy a clutch kit and flywheel made for the same year and make/ model as a dodge neon?
or did i just totally misunderstand you lol the very original clutch in this car was a clutchmasters...and it went out...but thats also do to the fact that it had seen very heavy use... so, if not clutchmasters...then who?

Re: TRANSMISSION PROBS(contd)
The 420a uses a modular clutch, which means the clutch, flywheel and pressure plate are all 1 piece. If you wanted to go with a lightweight flywheel, like a Fidanza, then you have to convert it over to a non-modular setup, meaning each piece is separate. I'm in the process of doing this right now on my new motor. You will also need the longer Neon bolts to connect the flywheel to the crank. They're about $2.00 a piece.
Exedy, Fidanza, ACT, Clutchmasters... lots of companies make clutches, just look around for what you need. Don't be afraid to call the companies.

Re: TRANSMISSION PROBS(contd)
ok i did some homework...
i think personally id like to go with the findanza setup...read some reviews on various websites, read about ppl who use them and all... i went to the sight, and they do in fact make a clutch kit and it looks as though the flywheel comes seperately...but um, i still ave one more question. on the fidanza site, theres like, to tech specs... and they have 3 different clutches to choose from.. cant tell which is right for me heres a quick link to it http://www.streetperformance.com/SPE...tegory_id=3043
