911...Need help, Shift kit problems

1997 Grand Prix GTP,

Put a transgo shift kit in just now, started to drive, car shuddered going into reverse, would not shift out of second while driving, just now parked it and now don't have anything, no reverse or forward. Key will not come out of steering column either.

What has happened? Any ideas?

weird how the Key issue would happen the same time you did some work on the trans.

Did you unhook the battery at all?

Check the shift linkage, and also might want to try re-adjusting the PRNDL switch.

Re: 911...Need help, Shift kit problems

OK, went back in and pulled the shift kit out, put the original springs back in, car now goes in reverse and forward, don't have 3rd or 4th gears. It is throwing code P0756.

I just did a pan drop for the shift kit.

The key is still stuck, I did disconnect the battery to reset the computer. I will check the steering column this weekend, see about removing the solenoid.

P0756....Shift Solenoid 'B' Performance or Stuck Off

I believe solenoid 'B' is the 2-3 shift solenoid, Troy1 will correct me if I'm wrong, he's our trans guru. Sounds like either you had a shift solenoid happen to go bad right at the same time you did this (if the code didn't exist before the kit was installed) or you did something wrong while installing the kit.

Hmmmm, check the wiring harness inside the trans. Maybe one of the wires were bumbed off the solonoid. Although that would not explain why your key would be stuck at the exact right time.

This is what would happen if I put a shift kit into my GTP which is why I usually leave things alone if they aren't broken.
