Brakes squeal only after it rains
Why do my brakes make that annoying high pitched noise for a 1-2 mins after it rains. It rained the other day during the day. I was driving when it rained but the rain had stopped that evening. So When I went to work the next morning my brakes squealed for about 1-2 mins when I applied my brakes then it went away. I had my brakes checked about 2 weeks ago and they said my brakes are fine. What could be the problem?

Re: Brakes squeal only after it rains
Water can get in the small groves created from normal brake wear or in the pores of the cast metal of the rotors and when the brakes are applied, the heat generated causes the water to turn to steam and whistle like a tea pot. As long as the noise goes away when the brakes dry out, it's nothing to be concerned about.

Re: Brakes squeal only after it rains
I always thought it was due to the surface rust that forms on the rotors. A squeak is a high-frequency vibration that occurs between two rubbing surfaces. The rust is scraped off and the surface is smooth after a couple of applications of the brakes.

I agree with both statements.
