96 grand voyager no air conditioning question

Hi all,

I have a 96 G.voyager with a 3.0. There is no cold air. When I turn the ac switch on I can here the clutch kick on and the compressor turns. The system was originally empty. I attemted to fill the system but the gauge registers too high pressure after just a can of refrig. which tells me that the refrig isnt moving even thought the compressor is turning. I also pulled the conector off of the pressure switch and this did cause the AC to not come on when the dash button is activated which tells me that the switch is working correctly.

I'm not real familiar with how an ac system works mechanically, so troubleshooting this one is giving me a fit. If anyone has any ideas I would appreciate it.

Thanks

Could be a number of things, expansion valve bad, accumulator, condensor, pressure switch. You might have to flush the entire system.

This is why cans of freon should not be sold to the public. The system needs proper diagnosing. IT needs to be drained and pulled down to a vaccum. Then it needs to be filled with the proper level of freon and oil. Then it can begin to be assessed for proper function. Being a 96, I'd say you're gonna be paying a pretty penny to get it back to 100%. Just adding freon is never going to fix A/C problems and that stop leak crap they push on people in parts stores causes more problems than it can ever hope to fix.

EDIT: CRAP!!! Didn't look at the original post date.

I fall into that trap now and then. Don't you hate that! Well at least I know what "necro" means now. Had to look it up. Learning never ends on this site.
