02 grand prix gt wont go over 3500-3600 rpm
02 grand prix gt 3.8 engine will not go over 3500-3600 rpm. barely gets out of first gear will not get out of second max speed 45-48 mph. passing gear will not engage. changed fuel filter. checked converter with temp gun. temp close front and back. any ideas? no codes or lights on dash.

Clogged cat would be the most common reason for this problem. Remove & replace the cat, or install a cat delete (bypass) & see how the engine runs!

How many miles are on this GP? See the link below located at our Tips & Maintenance subforum if you have under 120K miles and since it is a '01-'02 model. The GM dealership may cover the diagnostics and replacement of the CAT for free.
