Ball joints

I am now in need of ball joints, both upper and lowers on my 95 CV. Are these riveted in or bolted in? I know the new ones are bolt on design but I'm not sure about the old ones. Is this a hard job? Any advice? Thanks everyone

The ball joints are replaceable. Upper is rivited in and the replacement will bolt in and lower will press in. If you have ever replaced them, it is the same as always. You might want to go to www.autozone.com for instructions.

You will need a tool that looks like this.

For the rivets I use a small electric side angle grinder. Grind the head off on the ball joint side then use a punch and drive out the rivet. Don't grind next to the control arm as you can damage it.
Auto Zone or Advanced loan tools and have instructions.

Thanks guys, this looks pretty involved when I looked it up in my shop manual. I don't have the tool either. I got a quote to replace uppers and lowers on both sides for $175, after I buy the parts, do you think that's fair? Thanks for the help

I think that is a fair price cheaper than most garages.

AlldataPro states that all 4 can be replaced in 2.2 hours. So I think you are right on track.
