Tein S.Tech problems
I have an 00 civic coupe with Tein S.Tech and KYB Gr-2 shocks. After the install, the springs made a scraping sound when I made a semi-hard right or left. I thought it was my lip scraping but the drop with these wasn't as low as my old coils.
I took the whole thing apart about 2-3 times to make sure everything was in there right...nothing wrong. Every OEM piece that was supposed to be there was there. Except for the dustboot cover cause it clear the strut. I called Tein to ask and they said it was cause my rims were too big...205/40/17. I told him my car was dropped 2.5" around before these springs were put on. Then says that he doesn't know what kind of set-up I have so he can't determin the cause and says to take to a shop to have them look at it...10bucks later, its installed correctly. Anyone here have this set-up and have had the same problem? Do I just need to let the springs settle and break in before I drive hard on them? about 5-6 hours after the install, the sound isn't as loud but still there. And you can also hear it when the spring decompresses after hitting a pot hole. sorry for the long post..thanks to anyone who can figure this out for me. BTW the rims are 17x7.5 with a +42 offset.

You said you took the dust boot off am I right? Like the cover that protects the rod that moves up and down on the strut?
If you did that, it's not good. Dirt and crap will get in there and scrape on the rod and ruin the strut...and cause that sound. |
