Ferrari Testarossa 250 1958 MG Plus Models 1:12
Is there life after the F40 project ? .......well indeed there is
The Lucybelle will be my next model. The picture shows the model which is assembled by the manufacturer. ![]() I won´t make the NART version but the version how it is currently in a private Swiss collection. This book by Douglas Nye gives me guidance ![]() Some pictures of the box and its contents ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The front part is nicely detailled with a separate engine but the aft part is one lumb of resin. I will open the trunklid and the doors and replace them with brass ones. ![]() The innerpart will be replaced by a tubular brass chassis, tank and sparewheel. ![]() Here is some reference ![]() ![]() ![]() And here are my drawings of the aft part ![]() ![]() A lot of plans regards Ton |

Re: Ferrari Testarossa 250 1958 MG Plus Models 1:12
Alright Ton! This will be remembered as the summer of the white Testa Rossa on this forum. Keep the the great pics coming! (PS: That photoetch steering wheel rim would be perfect for a wooden steering wheel)

I never knew about this kit until I opened this thread...
About the summer of white ´58 Testarossas, I´m not sure. I remember one being made last year...phhh. Good luck with this monster. I´m eager to see this one done. Robert

What I meant was...ähham...your blue stripes are much more darker than the ones I saw yet. Please don´t ask what I was smoking while writing the earlier of the two posts. If I remember right, I even put a picture off the No. 22 car into my building thread. Oh dear. Robert

I have this same kit and have been contemplating some of the same modifications you are proposing.
I will definitely be watching your build and taking notes!

1/12th scale ? WHOA! I just finished my Hasegawa TR. MG Model Plus just released a 1/12th scale TR that Von Neumann ran at Riverside.

Re: Ferrari Testarossa 250 1958 MG Plus Models 1:12
After some consideration I decided to construct the aft chassis in brass instead of plastic tubing. Although plastic is better to work with, brass gives more strenght.
I started with a brass bulkhead to have a solid connection point for the brass tubing. I also use the resin aft part for the right measurement as a kind of mould for the brass parts. ![]() Here you see one part already "moulded" ![]() The drawing I made is now a template for the bending of the brass tubing ![]() ...and the mould I use for dryfitting. After I soldered the beams I was not very satisfied: the diameter of the tube was to much ( I knew already ) and the connection to the bulkhead was crappy. I removed everything and started all over with the new 6 mm tubing. In my second attempt I soldered a connection point ( made from a thinner tube) where I could slide the 6mm tube over the smaller one. It makes it much more easy to align the 6mm tube. ![]() This hazy picture shows the support. After bending, aligning and soldering I added a cross connection ![]() ![]() Next step is further making some reinforcements of the frame and making the axle. regards Ton |

Converting an MG into a superdetailed model. Wow you are brave!!
Can't wait to see your thread as it goes along. Consider this a scratchbuild(other than the body). Tom Tanner/Scale Designs/Ferrari Expo 2010 model/photo contest-Chicago April 2010 |
