ash tray light

The ash tray light quit working, so I replaced the bulb. But still it won't light up...
It seems it is activated by a switch when you pull out the ash tray. How can I reach it?

Re: ash tray light

IIRC, the ashtray light only turns on when the lights are on; otherwise, if it is not dark enough for the outside light to be on, how could you see it anyway.

Re: ash tray light

I thought there was a switch that was broken since when I closed the ashtray, the light went on and it went off when you open it.
The ash tray is held in place by 4 7mm bolts, but is still stuck after you remove those. There is a 5th bolt hidden beneath the dashboard....
Now you can take the whole ashtray out. The connector had a broken wire which caused the problem. The wires are connected to the moving tray, I can see this problem happening with the cigar lighter too.
But you are right, when you turn on the lights the ash tray light is always on, even with the tray closed.
