New owner: 99 suburban LT HELP!

I found a 1999 suburban 1/2 ton, LT, 4wd. 113,000 miles on the clock, no engine tranny probs. has a bad rear diff, and transfer case needs rebuilt. He bought it at an auction and doesnt want to fix it (honest!). He owns a body/collision shop. He said that there are no collision damage and that everything is fine. He gave the interior an 8/10.

He said he would take 1000 for it, so I said hell yeah. Thing is I have to drive 2 hours to get it this sunday and he said it will get me home but he restated the rear end issue. He is driving 70 miles to make my trip shorter.

Im kinda freaking out because I dont know about these burbs. Is there something I should know about these? I already found a guy selling a rear axle from a 89-99 1/2 ton silverado/tahoe/suburban said it will fit. He wants 300 for the entire back diff with drums and all.

WHat kind of transfer case should I start searching for or can these be rebuilt? I have a good feeling about it, its just so cheap for a low mileage 1999 LT with leather

$300 v.good price on rear.I would open making sure alls well inside no play etc.then replace fluids. the TC can be rebuilt. but because bad I cant even suggest you bring tools to remove rear drive shaft put in 4wheel and lemp home using front end to power you home.Thats real low miles for all that wear!!!??? Hope works for you

Re: New owner: 99 suburban LT HELP!

Ok thanks !!

Will double check that. Pretty cool to find a part I need 20 minutes after taking delivery of a vehicle. I wanno go over it so bad I cant wait. I am a die hard DIY WIll check the tags on axle before going to pick up the other axle but I think owner said it was definitely a 3.73

PS What axle codes are 3.73? The donor vehicle was a 96 yukon 4wd 1/2 ton, axle going on a 99 burb 4wd 1/2 ton

Re: New owner: 99 suburban LT HELP!

ya I wish I remembered . But if you turn axe at wheel once your yoke will turn 3 and 3/4 turns(apx) close enough to know you have correct one. also that I was told was the rare one 3.73 (cause thats the one I needed to fix wifes 90 subr years back. my freind at junk yard would have that info but hes closed until monday maybe someone else here reading this post may have that info, unfortunatly I dont have that sorry.Turning wheel and counting drive shaft will work though.
