'66 Chevelle wagon
Submitted for your approval; one 1966 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu Station Wagon.
This cream puff is an all original low milage car originally purchased directly from the factory. Special order features include: Deluxe two-tone paint in Beige over Light Metallic Desert Tan and a rare L78, 375hp, 396 V-8. Backing the rat is a 4-speed Muncie trans. The 800-cfm quad pulls the air in through an open element K&N filter and gas exits through a pair of 2.5" stainless exhausts. the car has the upgrade handling pkg. available only on SS Chevelle models. A rear anti-sway bar was also installed. The 17" (x7' front & 8" rear) Rally style rims were add later and are wrapped in a set of Good Year Eagle GS-C tires; 245/45/ZR17 (F) and 315/35/17 (R) . The original steel rims and dog dish caps were boxed up and stashed away. The Delco am/fm radio was the only other box checked on the original order slip. Seriously now: My second car was a beautiful low milage 1966 Imapala Wagon; This Chevelle is painted in the color combo of that car . The Impala ran a stock 327/power glide combo. The Rallies on mine were stock and the rubber was much more conventional, tho the rake on the kit is close to how mine set. I was a newlywed on a budget and lost the car before I had a chance to put a lot of money into it. The car was cherry on top but swiss cheese on the frame. Rear right swing arm bracket rusted through a few days before I was to drive it on my move to L.A., along with all my stuff. The rear broke loose, I stopped, and that was the beginning of the car's downfall.I know a great welder in Omaha who boxed the frame and got me safely to the left coast. At some point, I hope to buy the Modelhaus '66 Impala wgn. kit and reproduce the real car more accurately but, for now, the Chevelle was cheeper and more available and is one of the few finished models I've built recently as my day job and family keep me very busy. More to come (and lots less text to read.) ![]() ![]() More detail still to finish: ![]() I usually weather the frames and add plumbing, for realism, but not here:

Re: '66 Chevelle wagon
That's a bit different from the usual stuff. Looks really original. I especially like the matching metallic interior. Not sure what all your words mean, did you have a few beers before writing?! I think you mean you had a real 66 Impala in similar colours but the resin kit was too expensive so you substituted the 66 Chevelle?!

Re: '66 Chevelle wagon
No, no beer. I repurposed the text from a post I put up on a forum where people are more familiar with my history. In light of your comments, I think I'll go back and edit
things a bit. Then nobody will understand what you meant instead ![]() Thanks for the kind words. Last edited by Mark E.; 08-07-2009 at 05:17 PM. |

Re: '66 Chevelle wagon
I hope I haven't offended you, that was't the intention, just trying to be light hearted, anyway I think your Chevelle looks great. I have one in the 'to do' pile. Not sure what to do with it yet but yours is good inspiration. No one ever understands what I mean!

Re: '66 Chevelle wagon
I have a tough hide and a biting whit and was in no way offended. I should have been more aware
of the fact nobody here knows me so, in reality, you did me a favor. I'm glad to have helped with some inspiration. My Building philosophy is to build cars with a 'real world' feel to them. Even the "trailer Queens" have to look like they're driven. Of course, I hardly ever get time to complete many these days. I will share the ones that are done tho, as well as those in process...... Thanks again. |

Re: '66 Chevelle wagon
Good news. I also have very limited time available. As soon as I work out how to upload photos I'll post details of some of mine that are started too.

Re: '66 Chevelle wagon
Really nice. I did the same kit a while back (assume this is the California Wheels kit). Like the color choice and the wheels/tires are great! Really clean!
