89 cutlass supreme problem

I bought a 89 olds cutlass supreme with 52k miles a few days ago. I ran it a few days and it ran like a dream! It was a great running car and I thought I got a good deal! 2 days ago It died kinda like it was out of gas. If I pushed the gas pedal it would die out. It would start up but would only Idle roughly until I tried to touch the gas. I Idled to the gas station and got gas in it. I let it cool off and the same thing! I parked it in the parking lot where it was and the next day I came and replaced the Fuel filter thinking that it was restricted. It was a NO GO. Same thing. I tried to troubleshoot the problem a few different ways. I thought It was the fuel pump. It might still be. I also cut the exaust right before the catilitic converter so that way I could rule that out. After cutting the exaust I had the same problem but the car is now louder. I messed with the fuses in the "Electrical Center" and I found that if i removed one of the fuses that the car would rev now but really rough. Here is a PIC. This car is a 3.1 Fuel Injection.
Here is how its labeled:
1.= "INJ 2.8L"
2.= "INJ 2.8L"
3.= "IGN"
4.= "DIS"
Now this is a 3.1 motor so im not sure what these fuses controll! Thank you guys so so much. The car runs better with the no "1" fuse pulled but it misses when you rev it up. I just cant believe how well it ran then all the suddon just like that it acted like it was out of gas! THANKS!!

First of all this is an all volunteer forum so participation varies. Check the fuel pressure, no? First thing to get into. The fuses control each firing bank of injectors, 3 at a time.. Post back the results.

So the 2 "ING 2.8" fuses control the 3 injectors each? Just wondering. Also why do they say 2.8 when the motor in the car is a 3.1? Did someone do some motor swaping in the car at some time? Thanks!

Re: 89 cutlass supreme problem

20 year old car, no way to know it's history, just stay on track with the diagnostics, same issue either way. The paired injectors are fused, not lt and rt banks, but the injector batch firing banks. You could be running on 3 cyl.

Check the VIN number for the engine code which is the eighth character. W is 2.8, T is 3.1. In 1989 the cutlass supreme had a standard 2.8 for the first half of the year and standard 3.1 the second half. It's possible the factory put in a 3.1 but used the older 2.8 fuse covers.

Re: 89 cutlass supreme problem

Correct, but the diagnostics remain.
